About Jason Parrish
Jason is chief meteorologist at WBOY, joining the staff in June 2005. His forecasts can be seen at 5, 6, 7 and 11 o'clock.
Jason is a native of Monongalia County and is happy to be back in West Virginia. He grew up in Jakes Run, located near Fairview. It was there that his interest in weather began. From heavy snow in the winter (including the 1993 Superstorm, which left two feet of snow on his front porch), to summer thunderstorms, Jason knew that a career in weather was the path he wanted to take. Jason graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in broadcast journalism and holds a certificate of meteorology from Mississippi State University.
He comes from The Weather Channel, where he spent three years as a radio meteorologist. His duties included forecasting and broadcasting to all parts of the United States.
Jason has also worked at television stations in Alabama, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
While in Wisconsin, Jason worked with Great Lakes Weather Service, which provided forecasts for radio stations, cities, ski resorts and utility companies. Jason also participated in several storm chases.
A full member of the American Meteorological Society and The National Weather Association, he holds both the NWA and CBM seals of approval. Jason won the 1999 West Virginia AP award for Best Weathercast.
When he isn't watching the skies, Jason enjoys weightlifting, running, traveling and reading. He is also active in his local volunteer fire department.
