Miley Elected as Speaker

By Julie Perine on June 18, 2013

Nearly a month after declaring his candidacy for Speaker of the West Virginia House of Delegates, Tim Miley has been elected.

The election took place during today’s special session at State Capitol chambers, which began at 12 p.m.

The Harrison County democratic candidate won by a slim margin over republican House Minority leader Tim Armstead of Kanawha County.
Democrat Harry Keith White of Mingo County had also been a candidate for Speaker of the House, but pulled out of the race Friday to support Miley.

The Speaker position became available last month when Rick Thompson (D-Wayne) resigned from the position to serve as Secretary of Veterans’ Assistance on Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin’s cabinet.

Miley will preside through 2014.

Of Bridgeport, Delegate Miley was elected to the House of Delegates in 2004 and has served on several committees. He is currently Chair of the Judiciary Committee. He serves the 48th District which includes Harrison County and a portion of Taylor County. The owner of Miley Legal Group in Clarksburg is married to Susan Miley. They have a daughter, Jordin.
