Bridgeport High School Alum Nick Greely Transfers from Campbell; Heading to MEC Power West Liberty

The reloading process rolls on for West Liberty University head basketball coach Ben Howlett as the reigning Mountain East Conference Coach of the Year has announced two more signings for the 2018-19 season.

Yahel Hill, a record-setting point guard from Ohio Division I prep power Cleveland Heights High School, has signed to play his college ball on the hilltop along with Nick Greely, a 6-7 former West Virginia all-stater, who has transferred to WLU from NCAA Division I Campbell University.

Greely was a first-team All-West Virginia standout who led Bridgeport High School to back-to-back regional titles and "Final Four" appearances in Charleston. The Big 10 Conference Player of the Year averaged more than 20 points a game his last two years and posted 21.5 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game as a senior to earn a spot in the West Virginia North-South All-Star Game.

He sat out a redshirt season at Campbell after signing with the Big South squad and saw only limited action last year as he battled injuries throughout the season. Now back at 100 percent, he'll be asked to provide a physical presence in the paint.

"Nick comes to us after spending two years at an NCAA Division I program and gives us some much-needed size," Howlett said. "We need him to help us with defense and rebounding on the blocks but he's a skilled offensive guy who can create match-up problems at the other end. We look forward to having Nick with us for the next three years."

The 6-0 Hill wrapped up his stellar schoolboy career in impressive fashion last winter, leading Cleveland Heights to a Lake Erie Conference championship and earning LEC Player of the Year honors in the process.

Hill averaged better than 20 points a game over his final two seasons, blowing past the 1,600-point career mark to shatter former Ohio Mr. Basketball Damon Stringer's 20-year-old school scoring record. A deadly 3-point shooter who also led the team in assists each of the past three seasons, Hill stuffed the stat sheet with 20.2 points, 5.6 assists and 4.0 rebounds a night as a senior.

"Yahel is a very talented shifty guard who has a real knack for scoring the basketball and creating open looks for his teammates," Howlett said. "He played in a very competitive league in Cleveland and is very capable of helping us in Year One."

Greely and Hill will be joining November early-signing Jon Alessandro – a 6-6 Ohio Division I All-Conference forward from Beavercreek High School – when the Hilltoppers hit the practice court in the fall. Coming off a 26-4 debut season that included another Top 25 ranking, a Mountain East Conference championship and WLU's ninth straight NCAA Tournament bid, Howlett is chomping at the bit.

"We're really looking forward to seeing all of our new guys in Black and Gold this season," Howlett said. "We have three very impressive young men who are great fits for our program and the university. We're still looking to add another piece or two to the mix but can't wait to get back on the court."
