Local Bridgeport High School Alumna Morgan Conner Making Her Mark One Stitch at a Time

There’s a holiday in June that you may not have realized you needed in your life.  It’s World Wide Knit in Public Day and BHS Alum Morgan Conner, among other, has made not one, but two career choices based on the hobby celebrated each June.

After teaching herself how to knit while attending Bridgeport High School, she continued perfecting the craft, adding crocheting along the way.

“I noticed knitting was becoming obsolete and no one around me knew how to do it,” said Conner.  “I decided to teach myself and I became obsessed with it, noting how relaxing it can be and how unique handmade gift items were.”

Her inspiration came from her customers at The Nest yarn shop in Bridgeport, where she has worked for nearly a year.

“Customers would show off their amazing masterpieces and I wanted to try to challenge myself to create similar items,” she said.  “I also watch Pinterest boards for ideas to expand my collection.”

Her second knitting career is her featured shop on Etsy.com.  The online marketplace provides a portal for home artisans to sell one-of-a-kind merchandise directly to buyers.  Conner’s shop showcases wares such as baby blankets, hats, scarves, coasters, bracelets and dream catchers.

Although she received her Bachelor Degree in History from Fairmont State University, her true passion is found in knitting, among other creative endeavors such as painting and writing.  The 2012 BHS alumnus’ Etsy site can be found at www.etsy.com/shop/MorgansKniftyKnits.
