National Healthcare Volunteer Week was recently celebrated during April 15-21, each year healthcare organizations all over the country take time to recognize the volunteers who give so much of their time, free of charge.  "Volunteers, Exceptional People, Extraordinary Hearts" themed this year's banquet held Tuesday, April 17, that honored the members of the Auxiliary to United Hospital Center.

"I selected this theme because it describes each and every dedicated volunteer at UHC," said Barbara Lopez, Auxiliary President.  More than 90 volunteers attended the awards luncheon at Village Square in Clarksburg.

United Hospital Center is very appreciative of the more than 190 volunteers that are currently donating their time. Some of the current volunteers have been doing so for more than 35 years. In 2011, the team donated a combined total of nearly 30,519 hours of service.

A $120,000.00 check presentation by the Auxiliary was provided to Bruce Carter, President of UHC. These funds will directly contribute to many improvements and enhancements throughout the hospital.

“Volunteers play a powerful role — they encourage those they help and inspire others to follow,” says Denise Steffich, Director of Volunteer Services at UHC. “Community volunteers are an integral part of the healthcare team. Their dedication to coordinating fundraising programs to benefit the hospital and helping patients and staff is truly priceless.”

Many volunteers were honored and recognized at the banquet for their generosity and dedication to countless hours and years of service that benefit the people of the north central West Virginia region.
