The Avett Brothers, one of the top folk-rock acts in the country, are coming to the WVU Coliseum – one night only – Tuesday, Sept. 10. Showtime for An Evening with the Avett Brothers is set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 7, at 10 a.m. at the Creative Arts Center Box Office, online at Ticketmaster.com, and by phone at 304-293-7469 and 800-745-3000.

 

The Avett Brothers’ music has roots in traditional folk and bluegrass but also captures the high spirits and no-boundaries attitude of rock ‘n’ roll.

 

The Avett Brothers first made mainstream waves in 2009 with their major label debut “I and Love and You,” which landed at No. 16 on the Billboard Top 200 and earned the band critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, Paste, The New York Times and Time magazine. The band cracked the Top 10 on the same chart in 2012 with the release of “The Carpenter.”  In 2015, they found themselves opening for The Rolling Stones in Raleigh, North Carolina, during The Stones’ Zip Code Tour.

 

Their most recent studio album, “True Sadness,” has dominated multiple charts. “True Sadness,” produced by Rick Rubin, hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Albums chart, No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums chart, No. 1 on the Digital Albums chart and No. 3 on the Top 200. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Americana Album while “Ain’t No Man” was nominated for Best Americana Performance.

 

Since October 2018, The Avett Brothers have released four singles: the harmony-drenched ballad “Roses and Sacrifice,” the swinging ‘60s poppish track “Trouble Letting Go,” the gentle, country-rocking tune “Neapolitan Sky” and “Sun, Flood or Drought.” “Sun and Drought” is the optimistic new track composed for the documentary “The Biggest Little Farm” which was released to select theaters this month. Rolling Stone calls it a “call back to the intimate, minimalist style of their [The Avett Brothers] “The Gleam” EP.

 

The Avett Brothers have now released nine studio albums and four live recordings, and are currently working on a new album they expect to release late summer, early fall. 

 

Tickets for An Evening with The Avett Brothers Sept. 10, at the WVU Coliseum start at $35 for the general public and at $20 for WVU Students. Floor tickets are general admission, standing room only and all other sections are reserved seats.
