The Sanctuary on Main Street to Celebrate One Year Anniversary with Special Activities Tuesday

One year ago, the finishing touches were being made on the now famous angel wings that adorn the wall at The Sanctuary.  As the name implies, the space was designed to create a retreat that could inspire artists of all levels to experiment, explore and express through various mediums.

“Given that the building was at one time a church, we felt it fitting to name it The Sanctuary in order to provide a safe haven for art.  We created it to encompass the larger art community and provide a brick and mortar location for local artisans,” said owner Amanda Leaseburg.

On August 1, The Sanctuary will be celebrating its one-year anniversary, featuring a meet and greet with local artists and showcasing some of the programs that have made the business such an integral part of the Bridgeport Community.

Located on Main Street in Bridgeport, The Sanctuary houses The Starving Artist Studio, Feathered, Rayme Pullen Piano Instruction, Random Rabbit, Amy’s Art Glass, The Pretty Pickle, Pickle Stew, Local Whimsey, Frannie’s Art Works, Bubble and Geek, To The Moon Jewelry, Vittoria and Banks, Schuster  Photography, Grounded Goods, Mountain Momma Organics,Z&Z Woodcrafters, and Déjà vu Vintage.

Owners Amanda and Bill Leaseburg began their vision with The Starving Artist Studio, formerly located in Clarksburg.  As the business grew, they saw an opportunity to embrace fellow artisans with a one-stop shop of one-of-a-kind creations.  Entering the store, one is immediately transformed into a whimsical, eclectic whirlwind of possibilities that inspire and encourage artistic expression.

Throughout the year, The Sanctuary has hosted a number of classes, including painting parties, pet portrait contests, and hand casting to preserve special moments.  They have also offered art camps and free kids activities such as rock painting and caricatures.

Always an active participant at Main Street Mondays, The Sanctuary is grateful to be a part of a  community that embraces the arts and supports local businesses.  They plan to expand to the second floor this year to offer more space for local talents who wish to have a brick and mortar store.

To celebrate their anniversary, they will offer refreshments and snacks from 5:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. on Tuesday, August 1.  Artists will be on hand for a meet and greet and prizes will be drawn to give away one year’s worth of earrings from Vittoria and Banks, a free class for two at Starving Artist Studios, a free class if a party is booked, a key necklace from Feathered and other special offers.  Mountain Momma Organics will have free samples as well.

“The past year has been an incredible experience to network with artisans and offer community outreach through events and classes,” said Leaseburg.  “We look forward to celebrating with everyone on Tuesday and anticipate even more growth over the next year.”
