West Virginia Wesleyan Concert Chorale and Concentus Vocum Embarks on Fall Tour, Visiting Churches in West Virginia and North Carolina

West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Concert Chorale and Concentus Vocum will embark on their fall tour.  This year, the ensembles will be traveling to various churches in West Virginia and North Carolina on December 13-17. 
 
Under the direction of Dr. R. Dan Hughes, director of choral activities and associate professor of music at Wesleyan, the group will travel to Ravenswood on Wednesday to perform a concert at North United Methodist Church at 7 p.m.
 
On Thursday, the musical ensembles will perform at United Methodist Temple in Beckley at 7 p.m.
 
The singers will then travel south to perform a concert at New Sharon United Methodist Church on Friday, December 15 in Hillsborough, NC.  On Sunday, December 17, the tour will conclude at First United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. in Buckhannon.
 
During the tour, Hughes hopes to visit with students at Ravenswood High School, Ripley High School, Gilmore Elementary School, Woodrow Wilson High School, Shady Spring High School, and Notasium Play Space and Music School in Durham, NC.
 
Dr.  Hughes directs the Concert Chorale, Concentus Vocum, and the Wesleyan Singers. He also teaches courses in choral conducting, applied voice, and a first-year-seminar, and acts as the liaison between the Department of Music and the Department of Theatre & Dance.  He is also Artistic Director for the Chanticleer Children’s Chorus of West Virginia.  Dr. Hughes is active as adjudicator and clinician.  In conjunction with the American Choral Director’s Association, he has presented several reading and interest sessions and prepared and conducted choirs and singers for national, regional, and state conferences.  He wrote the article on Dominick Argento for the second edition of the Grove Dictionary of American Music.  Dr. Hughes received his Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from Otterbein College, Masters of Music in Choral Conducting from the Eastman School of Music, and his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Music at the University of Illinois.
 
The concerts are free and open to the public.
