Time Travel: Emergency Personnel Photo from Years Ago and Vacant Land at Adamston Flat Glass Site
By Dick Duez on June 24, 2018
This photo from many decades ago shows several local individuals in front of a Bridgeport Fire Department Truck. Two of those shown are Police Chief John Diamond, far, left, and Billy McCartney, third from left. If you know who else is in the photograph, please comment below.
Today, there is a a retail strip and beautifully paved parking lot on this former industrial site in Clarksburg. Not too long ago, as this 2002 photo shows, the former Adamston Flat Glass Plant site was vacant and in need of attention. In recent years, it was redeveloped.
Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard
"Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dick.do@frontier.com.
...gosh thanks, you picked the easy ones. That might be young Mike Salvio on the running board of the fire truck. He would later become one of a hand full of paid firefighters the city had at the time That truck I believe was a 1966 model. It was rolled in the turn out at Burnsides Car Wash responding to a call and I 'm pretty sure Jim Trippett was driving. It was repaired and repainted in yellow and white with a black kind of vinyl looking top. It was also used in a community service photo for what was then Hope Gas with Bob Stewart in turn out gear, former Hope employee and former Jane Lew VFD fire chief standing beside it.
