CSX Maintenance Project at West Main Taking Place as Scheduled

By Julie Perine on April 20, 2017 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

CSX employees are flagging traffic on West Main Street today as engineering teams install crossties along the stretch of railroad tracks which crosses Main Street near the Benedum Civic Center. Traffic shouldn’t be affected much, one of the employees said. In fact, work at the location should be completed either today or Friday.

The maintenance project involves tracks from Grafton to Clarksburg, said Laura Phelps, manager of media relations for CSX Transportation.

“(They are) replacing old crossties, resurfacing the track and repaving some of the at-grade road crossings to provide a smoother, safer surface for drivers,” she said.

The project is taking place as scheduled. It was slated to begin in mid-April and last about a week, depending on weather and barring any unexpected events that may impact the work, Phelps said.

Several weeks ago, materials were delivered and placed along the tracks in preparation for the project.

“CSX has coordinated closely with local roadway authorities to plan for crossing closures and detours, and we appreciate the community’s patience while we complete this important work,” Phelps said.
