ORIGINAL POST:
Combine three-plus acres of rolling farmland and a passion for dogs – with horses, pigmy goats, chickens and rabbits thrown in for good
measure – and what do you get?

In the preliminary stages and open exclusively to friends and family at the present time is Camp Cupcake AKA Crazy Critter Farm, a farm-style dog boarding service, just off Hinkle Lake Road.

Bridgeport’s Anne and Troy Bartlett have decided to open their property to canines in need of a temporary home.

Anne Bartlett shared how she was inspired to start the new boarding business.

“It started out because we don’t like to leave our own dogs when we go on vacation,” she said. “They are used to space and don’t like to be in a confined space.”

Already in the horse boarding business, servicing equine owners from throughout the region, the couple toyed with the idea of building a second barn to board dogs.

“Troy said you love dogs so much, why not find a way to turn this into a business,” Bartlett said. “I’m excited about this. I get to spoil them like grandkids, then send them home.”

Not only is the business fulfilling Bartlett’s passion, but also a community need.

“There’s really no place like this in the area,” she said.

The facility features “hotel rooms” of various sizes to accommodate different breeds and personalities. Sibling dogs can room together if owners desire. A two-acre, fenced-in play area is also part of the setup.

“I’ll get to throw a ball and the dogs can run in a big yard. That makes me smile because we’re utilizing this land we have,” Bartlett said.

In addition to overnight boarding, Camp Cupcake will offer doggie day care and welcomes canines during Mountaineer football Saturdays. It’s a work in progress and Bartlett is quite passionate about it.

She is the former Anne Faris and was raised on the property, located across from Bridgeport tennis courts at Deegan Lake.

“My dad started the horse boarding business 40 years ago,” she said. “We have horses from all over the area – Fairmont, Clarksburg, Quiet Dell. It’s such a great group.”

Bartlett anticipates the same satisfaction will result from the dog boarding business. Plus, the Bartletts’ dogs Sampson and Jewel – both Labrador retrievers – will enjoy the company.
