City Offering 72-Hour Emergency Kit Workshop

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on March 07, 2018 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

In an ongoing effort to encourage preparedness, the City of Bridgeport is hosting a 72-Hour Emergency Kit Workshop Saturday, March 17 at Bridgeport City Hall.

The city attempts to offer one preparedness workshop per quarter. Following workshops on canning, dehydrating, gardening and water purification, this session focuses on sustainability in the event of an emergency.

In the event of a national, state, regional or local emergency, citizens should be prepared to sustain their households for a 72-hour period. Kits should include items such as food and water, emergency cooking, heating and lighting supplies, first aid items, sanitation supplies, necessary medicine and an emergency radio, among other items.

“Maybe people are hesitant and not sure what to have in their 72-hour kit and they are just getting started or maybe they have their own and they want to compare what is in theirs compared to what I have put together,” said Director of Bridgeport Emergency Services.

Those who bring their 72-hour kit will receive a free personal water purifier. Anyone will have the option to purchase a water purifier for $5 each. Pysz will teach the workshop, which will be held at Council Chambers inside Bridgeport City Hall on West Main Street.

To register for the workshop, contact Pysz at 304-842-8239 or lpysz@bridgeportwv.com
