First-Ever Student Created 2018 City of Bridgeport Calendars Available on First Come, First Serve Basis

The City of Bridgeport has something for residents for free – all you have to do is pick them up. Already, many in the community have them.
According to city official Andrea Kerr, a Bridgeport calendar is available for those who want them. Kerr said it’s simple to get.

“All anyone needs to do is come to the city building and pick one up. We’ll give them out until we run out and it’s first come, first served,” said Kerr.

These aren’t your typical calendars. Instead, these calendars are the result of the handiwork of some of Bridgeport’s finest – and youngest – artists. The calendars come from students in grades kindergarten through fifth at Johnson, Simpson and Heritage Christian Elementary Schools.

Last year, the city asked students to participate in the contest. Kerr said roughly 60 submissions were made to be included in the first-ever calendar.

“They were all so wonderful to look at. They turned out so cute and the final calendar is adorable,” said Kerr.

Each school, said Kerr was given calendars for their students. She said since there have been plenty of requests – primarily from the families of the students involved.

“We’ve had a lot of people call and ask for additional calendars,” said Kerr. “So many of the parents loved them and wanted to send them to their relatives.

City staff chose the 12 monthly selections, as well as the submission that was utilized for the cover. She said the plan is for the city to do it again for a 2019 calendar.

The following students are featured: Cover is by Lilly Smart; January is by Markus Mugge; February is by Anthony Hazey; March is by Myleigh Smell; April is by Jack Gould; May is by Haydn Henderson; June is by Jameson Trippett; July is by Jack Brunett; August is by Dominic Fazalare; September is by Isabella Murray; October is by Olivia Chapman; November is by Elizabeth Brittain; and December is by Cadence Kelley.

Editor's Note: City Clerk Andrea Kerr goes through the calendar at the city building, while the back cover showing all of the submissions is shown below. On the cover, City Council member John Wilson shows the public the calendars during a late 2017 meeting.
