The Bridgeport branch of Freedom Bank is doubling up duties for the month of May. In addition to offering banking services to the Bridgeport community, employees are collecting food, supplies and financial donations for the Harrison County Humane Society.

 

The fundraiser/supply drive is the first project in a series of community service projects, said Pam Hussmann, head teller. The bank was formerly involved in community service, but with staff changes throughout recent years, it kind of got lost in the shuffle.

 

“We decided to bring it back. We want to get involved in our community and start giving back,” Hussmann said. “Each branch chooses its own projects.”

 

As most employees at the Bridgeport branch are pet owners and avid animal lovers, the Humane Society of Harrison County was an ideal choice as a recipient.

 

“There is always such a need as they take care of all the animals that are filtered in there,” she said. “Who cannot look at those little furry faces and fall in love.”

 

Collection boxes are set up in the bank lobby, where there are refreshments for all stop in. The bank is also sponsoring a prize drawing for a spring/summer wreath – designed with the pet theme in mind.

 

Items on the Humane Society’s wish list are as follows: Purina brand puppy, kitten, dog and cat food, kitty litter (any brand), leashes and collars, cat and dog toys and treats, bleach, laundry detergent and fabric softener sheets, gently-used towels and blankets, paper towels and trash bags.

 

The items will be stored at the bank and taken to the Humane Society at the conclusion of the drive, June 1.

 

In addition to the supply drive and fundraiser, employees of Freedom Bank Bridgeport will continue their partnership with the Humane Society of Harrison County.

 

“Throughout the summer, we will be going out and working there, helping them with the animals,” Hussmann said.
