GFWC Woman's Club of Bridgeport Holds December Meeting; Four Recognized for 25 Years of Service

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on January 09, 2018 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Members of GFWC Woman's Club of Bridgeport, along with husbands and guests, enjoyed a holiday dinner at Best Western Plus on Thursday, Dec. 14. The event, which featured pre-dinner holiday music by the Bridgeport High School Jazz Band, served as the organization's December meeting. Julie Perine had devotions and offered prayer prior to the meal. During a short meeting which followed dinner, Co-Presidents Brenda Swiger and Barbara Wilburn recognized four members and presented them with their 25-year pins for service to the community through GFWC Woman's Club of Bridgeport. Those members were Eva Shearer, Shirley Hadorn, Karen Lang and Renee Starkey. On display was the Bridgeport-themed blanket for which club members are currently taking orders. The project will serve as a fundraiser, enabling the club to serve the community.

Several years ago, GFWC Woman's Club of Bridgeport raised funds for its community service work through the sale of red and white, Bridgeport-themed throws. Due to popular demand - and a growing Bridgeport community - the service organization is once again selling the item, featuring more buildings and landmarks than the previous project. In addition to the Bridgeport High School Indian head on all four corners, the design includes the Benedum Civic Center, the Bow Bridge and Covered Bridge, Bridgeport Public Library, Bridgeport Veterans Memorial, City Hall and all Bridgeport schools, as well as the "Opportunity Lives Here" logo.

Anyone interested in ordering a throw may contact Shirley Hadorn at 304-842-8310 or Barbara Wilburn 304-842-3395. The full price - $50 - must be paid upon ordering.
