It's Official: Shop 'n Save Becomes Price Cutter

By Julie Perine on July 09, 2018 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Over the weekend, new signage was added at the former Shop 'n Save on East Main Street, officially labeling the grocery store as Price Cutter. Read more in the article below which was published on Connect-Bridgeport in early-May when the announcement of the transition was made.

Original story: It was July of 2016 when a much-anticipated East Main Street grocery store opened its doors under the Shop ‘n Save banner. Owner Tom Jamieson of Jamieson Family Markets said customers will continue to find their favorite national brand items, but within the month, private label items will be of the Price Cutter brand and a new sign on the store will reflect the same name.

By June, the Jamiesons’ six West Virginia stores – including the Bridgeport location – will operate under “Price Cutter” and be serviced by the Price Cutter warehouse out of Tennessee.

“The reason we’re changing is that we want to offer lower prices to our customers,” Jamieson said. “They’re going to see much lower prices on our shelves every day. We’re lowering prices on 10,000 items in the store.”

Most national brand inventory will remain the same and the store will carry about twice the amount of private label items, he said. Some slow-moving items will be discontinued. There will be no employment changes and the gasoline rewards program will continue. “Perks” cards will be honored for the time being and eventually, customers will receive the new “Pump Perks” cards for which points will accumulate as they do under the present system.

The changeover to Price Cutter has already taken place at the Morgantown store, Jamieson said.

“Fairmont stores will be changing in two weeks and the Harrison County stores (Bridgeport and Adamston) will be the last to change,” said Jamieson, adding that will likely be sometime in June.

“Once we get everything squared away with the new wholesaler as far as lower costs, we’ll pass those savings on to our customers,” he said.

“We’ve also fine-tuned our expenses – cut them down – so we can be more competitive with Walmart, Aldi’s, Food Lion, etc. We weren’t as competitive as we should have been. This will get us where we need to be.”

The bottom line, Jamieson said, is besides the name change and lower-priced items, the store will remain pretty much the same.

“We’ll still have our two-day sales and the fuel program – all the things (customers) know us by,” he said.

The store will hold a grand opening under the Price Cutter name. According to a manager of the store, that event is scheduled for May 31. Stay tuned to Connect-Bridgeport for more information.
