Large Crowd Gathers at Meadowbrook Mall to Purchase Autographed Copy of BHS Student-Penned "Memories: Treasured Moments in Time"

A dozen high school and college students assembled at Meadowbrook Mall Monday evening for their very own book signing. A pretty large crowd gathered just outside Books-a-Million to purchase an autographed copy of “Memories: Treasured Moments in Time.”

“We had a very successful night at the book signing,” said Georgette Griffith, who while substitute teaching at Bridgeport High School during the 2015-2016 school year came up with the class project which eventually was published through Dorrance Publishing Company.

Students who wrote and illustrated short stories based on childhood memories are Brad Cumberledge, Danielle Lodge, John Luke Massie, Michael Michaels, Mattie Missildine, Preston Peasak, Emma Posey, Travis Priester, Micah Swann, Abigail Thompson, Aaron Tran and Carlos Wiseman. Posey also designed and created the book cover, which she said features characters from each of the stories inside.

After April 25, the book will be available through Google Books, Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble Nook.

“Memories: Treasured Moments in Time” will also be sold in over 200 bookstores nationwide, Griffith said.

Interested purchasers can also call BHS to place an order.

The students, their parents and Griffith were quite pleased with the book signing turnout.

“I don’t think the students were expecting such a large crowd.  Dr. Manchin and Principal Mark DeFazio came to give their support and they were very complimentary of the students,” Griffith said. “We were so fortunate because even the student authors who were in college either flew or drove in for the signing.”

All the student authors were present for the signing.

The project, from the writing and illustrating to the editing and ultimate publishing – as well as the book signing – has been a rewarding experience for Griffith and the students, said.

“This is something they will treasure for many years to come,” she said. “To be nationally published is such an accomplishment and honor. “
