Monday evening's Bridgeport City Council meeting featured a swearing in of four new members of Bridgeport Volunteers in Police Services. Mayor Andy Lang did the honors of swearing in Garrett Bennett, Jack Waggamon, Doug W. Bush and George M. Davis. Martina Van Natta was unable to attend, but she also completed the recent Citizens Police Academy and subsequent mandatory courses and became a member of Bridgeport VIPS, bringing the number of volunteer officers to 32. After taking their oaths, the new VIPS members received their official pin from Bridgeport Police Officer Christopher "Bart" Sayers, who along with Sgt. L.Mark Rogers, oversees the program. Police Chief John Walker thanked Sayers and Rogers for their dedication to the program and thanked the new VIPS members for their service. He also welcomed back Davis, a former police officer with the city.

"We have one of - if not the - largest volunteer law enforcement groups in the state and we're pretty proud of that," Walker said.
