Miss Harrison County and Miss Harrison County’s Outstanding Teen to be Named in March
By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on March 02, 2015
“After nearly a decade of not having a local preliminary to Miss West Virginia right here in our own county, I thought it was important to step up and volunteer to ensure young ladies right here in our community began having the opportunity to once again earn scholarship dollars for college. There are so many talented and intelligent young women right here in our community and I wanted to ensure they had a chance to showcase it.” says Oldaker.
The Miss America Foundation strives to change lives and influence young women across the country and around the world. This Miss America Organization proudly offer academic and community-based scholarships for undergraduate and graduate studies, as well as endowed scholarships for those young women attending medical school, working in special areas for military service awareness, and in the performing arts.
Participating in the Miss America system not only helps you pay for college and prepare for a career, it also provides an opportunity to gain additional life experience, working on issues of importance to society, enhancing your personal and professional skills and developing your performance-related and other talents.
“I am also very pleased to see the support we’ve had from local organizations and businesses our first year back in the county. Since we are a not-for-profit volunteer organization, it is only through the financial support of sponsorships we are able to provide scholarships funds. My goal is to eventually be able to provide scholarships large enough to pay for a contestant’s entire year of college at the county level,” explains Oldaker.
