One King Sports Continues Fundraising Efforts for Justin Bishop

By Julie Perine on January 31, 2018 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Last week, One King Sports spontaneously held a T-shirt sale to benefit local, Justin Bishop, who is battling a rare, but curable form of cancer, Ewing Sarcoma.

“People were beyond generous and we collected $1,500 that we’ll be getting to Justin and his family,” said Ricky Hitt, One King Sports co-founder and organizer.

To continue those fundraising efforts, the Christian youth sports league will sponsor a game day dedicated to Bishop. Donations will be accepted, Hitt said.

That event is Feb. 17 at all three OKS locations: Horizons Church in Lost Creek, South Harrison High School and Genesis Youth Crisis Center.

A local youth sports coach – including a history with the One King Sports ministry - Bishop is undergoing six rounds of chemotherapy to shrink the tumor. Surgery to remove the tumor is the next course of action, followed by additional chemo.

“We would like to use this game day to extend the opportunity for participants and spectators to donate to Justin and his family towards their medical bills,” Hitt said. “A donation box and representative will be at all three game day locations.”

Any donation would be a blessing to the Bishop family during this time, he said.

“The bible and Christ’s teachings command us to love one another: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself,’” Hitt said. “We want this sports ministry to be an example of that scripture and also to show both Christians and non-Christians what an impact you can make when you fully embrace that scripture.”

The ministry hopes to raise as much or more as the T-shirt sale, he said.
