Rotary Club of Bridgeport to Host Semi-Annual Blood Screening at Bridgeport Middle School

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on February 08, 2019 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Since 1981, the Bridgeport Rotary Club has sponsored a semi-annual, multi-phasic blood testing program.  The first session this year will be at the Bridgeport Middle School on Saturdays, Feb. 16 and 23 from 7-10 a.m.

“This has proven to be an inexpensive and effective health screening opportunity, especially for those without a personal physician,” said Bridgeport Rotary Club President Nathan Rakestraw (pictured, left).

For only $45, an individual can have the basic 39 test that includes chemistry, lipids and complete blood count.  There are more specific blood profiling options available as well as subject matter experts are on hand to assist with any questions.  Most insurances are accepted, but one must have a signed prescription.  Since 10 hours of fasting is recommended, the club - at no charge - provides a pancake and sausage breakfast following the testing.

Not only does the Rotary Club of Bridgeport annually provide several volunteer hours to the community, they raise and distribute thousands of dollars for local and international service programs.  Some of the local projects focus on youth academic and athletic projects.  Some recent projects have reached out to assist with rebuilding the Hundred Volunteer Fire Dept. after a severe flooding event.  For more information about Rotary or the blood program call Nathan Rakestraw (304) 641-3642.
