Three Bridgeport High School students are among the national recipients for the 2018 Emerging Leader Honor Award.  The award recognizes DECA high school seniors who are studying marketing, finance, management and hospitality and who are also academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible and have demonstrated leadership skills.

Each year, students from across the country apply for the Emerging Leader Honor Award, but only those who meet certain criteria are accepted. Rhe Freeman, Carlie Crayton, and Jake Runner, all seniors at BHS, were among the winners of this prestigious award.

To be recognized, students must participate in DECA activities throughout their high school career, including leadership roles, promotional events, professionalism, and state and international marketing competitions.  Each of the BHS winners have been immersed in DECA since starting at BHS.

They have each taken multiple courses in marketing, finance and business and have met the academic requirements of the Emerging Leader Honor Award.  Additionally, they have had to prove their skills as a leader and as a citizen, requiring them to have the approval of the BHS Principal Mark Defazio, school counselor Jane Byrd, and a community member.

Their dedication to being career-ready and pursuing excellence in both the classroom and at work has allowed them to be named among the best of the best in the nation.
