Well-Known and Former Long-Time Resident of City of Bridgeport, Mary Ann Casten, Passes Away at 82

Mary Ann Casten departed this life on February 10, 2017, at her son's home in Chesterfield, Virginia. She was born on August 25, 1934, in Clarksburg, WV, the daughter of Peter I. and Helen T. (Messaris) Jeranko. She spent her early childhood living with her grandparents, Joseph and Theresa Messaris, in Despard/Summit Park, before moving to her parent's home in Dundalk, Maryland. At age 17, she moved to New York City and then returned to Dundalk where she worked for General Electric.
 
After marrying John "Jack" Casten, she moved to Bridgeport where they raised their only child, Timothy. She was an avid bridge player, having obtained the Grand Master Duplicate Bridge title, and belonged to All Saints Catholic Church. She also enjoyed coaching a girl's softball team, participated in a bowling league and always had her door open to her son's friends. She remained in Bridgeport until 1988 when she started her career in the financial counseling department of Johns Hopkins Hospital until her retirement in 2004. In her retirement, she enjoyed going to the casinos and spending time with her family.
 
In addition to her son and his wife, Cindy, she is survived by her grandchildren, Brandyn Beuchert, of Fayetteville, N.C, Timothy Casten, Jr. (Megan), of Chester, VA, Katelyn Casten (David Ochoa) of Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia and Matthew Tyler Casten of Chesterfield, and great grandsons, Matthew Christopher and Lucas Beuchert, and Timothy Casten, III. She was predeceased by her great-grandaughter, Hayley Beuchert. She also leaves behind her brother, Peter Jeranko, Jr. of Charles Town, WV.
 
At Mary Ann's request, she was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Clarksburg.
