When Bekah James steps onto a stage, she feels right at home.  In fact, the Bridgeport High School senior has incorporated performing into nearly every part of her high school experience.  Recently, James was awarded the Outstanding Vocalist for the third consecutive year at the West Virginia State Thespian Festival, demonstrating, once again, her unique talent and ability to entertain.

 

Although she has performed most of her life, she started making headlines when she was awarded the winner of Bridgeport Middle School Idol while attending school there in 2013.  Shortly after, she won the adult division of Strawberry Idol at the 2014 West Virginia Strawberry Festival, belting out songs like a seasoned Broadway veteran. 

 

Known for her appearances at fairs, festivals and contests across the state, James has made a name for herself around the state and beyond.  Whether representing Notre Dame High School’s Performing Arts Conservatory or Bridgeport High School’s show choir and theater, James has spent her high school career in the spotlight. 

 

In addition to being a three-peat in the Outstanding Vocalist category, James also was selected to perform at the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska this summer. It is the third consecutive year she has been chosen to attend and each year, she has received superior ratings. 

 

As a vocal student of Joshua Stubbs at the Vintage Theatre Company, James was honored at Clarksburg’s Got Talent, the Doddridge County, and the Extreme Talent Showcase.  She even had her own show at the 2015 Italian Heritage Festival.  James has received an academic and art scholarship to West Liberty University, where she will pursue a BA in Theatre and continue to Broadway to follow her dreams.  She was featured in Bridgeport High School’s recent show, Leader of the Pack, and will no doubt continue to make headlines as her future unfolds.
