Three-Time Olympic Gold Medalist Swimmer to Hold Swim Clinic Saturday in Harrison County; Registration Open

By Trina Runner on November 02, 2017 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

In 1968, Debbie Meyer became a three-time Olympic gold medalist at the age of 16.  She was the first swimmer to win three individual gold medals in one Olympics, winning the 200-, 400- and 800-meter freestyle swimming races. The only other female swimmer to have done so was Katie Ledecky last year.

Meyer, who owns her own swim school, grew up with local swimming enthusiast Kari Drennan.  Having seen her Olympic gold and heard about her 15 World Records, Drennan asked if Meyer would be interested in traveling to Harrison County to conduct a one-day swim clinic for students aged nine and up.

Meyer was thrilled with the opportunity and will be conducting the swim clinic on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Harrison County YMCA in Clarksburg.  Students aged 9-12 will meet from 10:a.m. to noon and those aged 13 and up will work with Meyer from 1-4 p.m.  The cost is $45 per student.

The clinic currently has 25 students signed up, but the registration is currently open.  Meyer will work with students both in and out of the pool, answer questions, improve skills and technique, and share trading cards and Olympic stories.

Additional information for registration can be directed to Kari Drennan at 304-816-9677.
