Floral Design with Cara: Wheat Grass- Nutritional and Beautiful

By Cara Ewald on April 18, 2014 from Floral Design with Cara

Over 5,000 years ago, Mesopotamians found wheat grass to be sacred and a part of their health and vitality.  Today, wheat grass has many uses.  Some use the leafy grass for nutrition and some use it for decoration.  As for nutrition, consumption of wheat grass in the United States did not begin until the 1930s.  Ann Wigmore, founder of the Hippocrates Health Institute, believed wheat grass would cleanse the body of toxins while providing a proper balance of nutrients as a whole food.  Ann was criticized by most health providers, but many institutions still use her teaching to this day.  In the present, most recognize wheat grass as a part of "juicing."  In addition to nutrition, another use of wheat grass is for decoration.  Blooms acquired a wheat grass growing kit via the internet.  The pictures you see show the many stages of the growing process.  It takes about 7-10 days for the wheat grass to grow to about 7-10 inches tall.  We used shallow pots or flats and the potting soil provided in the kits.  As you can see, the beautiful wheat grass makes a sophisticated centerpiece for your Easter celebration.
