The photo of the band was taken in the basement of Charles and Polly Stoneking's house on Pennsylvania Ave by my father Robert E. Nichols (Bell Studio). From L to R is (Dr) Michael Raymond Hess, the late Roger Lee Stoneking and myself Roger Alan Nichols. We were at that point called "Eden" I believe and were probably rehearsing for our first ever gig, Mike's sister Monica's party on the 3rd floor of the Hess House at the corner of Worthington and Philadelphia. We were later joined by Robert Baltzley on drums when Roger Lee moved to bass guitar.

...what a place. I spent a lot of time there getting a good shine. Steve was a great fellow as well as brother Angelo. You could climb up in that chair and listen to Angelo solve most if not all of the problems of the day while Steve smoked his pipe. They used to tell about new kids coming to work there. If they wanted to mess with them they would send them up the street to the other shine shop to ask for the rag stretcher :) You could also get yourself a nice felt hat there. Angelo would turn on the steamer and get out his big brush and really put on a show. They also sold Allen Edmond shoes. Both of those men had sons that worked there and turned out to good men as well. Thanks Dick...
