Time Travel: Downtown 1954 Bridgeport Parade for a Unique Reason and Severe Flooding from Salem

By Dick Duez on February 25, 2018 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This a night parade that took place in October of 1954. The reason? Celebrating the new mercury vapor street lights installed by Mon Power. This photo is along Main Street and where the people are shown in the background is the location of the China 1 Restaurant today. Marty Root and his daughter Jackie are two of those shown in the buggy. Future mayor Bud Hess and wife can be seen just above the horses back. It was reported in the newspaper at the time that 5,000 people attended.
Not exactly sure of the date of this photo, but it's of a flood in Salem that these two ladies seem to be taking in stride. If anyone has any additional information on this photo, please add in the comment section below.
