some of the best memories of my childhood, yes! Blockbusters going off to signal the opening every night. Such an exciting time of summer. My Dad did the wiring for the fair and I was often with him. Got to know the Cunningham's who owned the carnival. Two of the sons had married girls from Lost Creek and I sometimes babysat their kids in the trailers to give the Moms a break. They were all wonderful people. Oh and knowing them got me LOTS of extra rides on the Octopus LOL. Bingo and Keno were a big deal at the fair for the adults. I can remember when cartons of cigarettes were on the Bingo prize boards, too LOL. My Mom worked the concession stand and yes those hotdogs seemed like the best in the world.

Oh how I do remember the Fireman's Fair days. In the evening as it was opening there would be these "big booms" usually two or three to let every one know it was time. All the old guard was there manning their games and the ladies auxiliary had the concession stand going with the smell of those famous hot dogs. Man were they good. My dad worked the fair and later on I worked the fair usually relieving Don Trippett calling the bingo game. We would take a weeks vacation sometimes just to be "carnies" for a time, well, and maybe have a drink or two. The dunking booth was a big attraction. You could pitch all the nickels you wanted to take home some ugly glass wear :) The parade was on Thursday evening and Main Street would be lined with folks. It was a great time in our little town. Like so many things, I guess we just kind of out grew it. Thanks for the memories Fireman's Fair.
