Time Travel: Hills Plaza in 1987 and Stores Located There and 1906 Church Service at Smith Chapel

By Dick Duez on April 23, 2017 from History Blog via Connect-Bridgeport.com

This photo is from 1987 when Hill's Department Store was still going strong in Bridgeport. If you notice the "Classic Auto Wash" sign is in place, which means the Terrace Cinemas are already out. The Cinemas listing places are being used for several businesses including "Bridgeport Florist" and "LM Video." At the bottom is a partially obscured "H&R Block" sign and a little blurry "Muffler World" sign.
This is the dedication of Smith Chapel, which many in the area may be familiar with. The photo is of the first Sunday service there in May of 1906.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard "Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dick.do@frontier.com.
