Bill " Hootie"Mick has been a friend since high school. Bill was also a fine football player on The first State Champion football team. Bill and his dad were barbers on Main Street for many years. Bill also had a shop for years in the old NAPA Building. He has been with Don Baldini at Diamond Car Wash for years. Bill has always been a hard worker in whatever job he is doing. Just a good man who will do anything for anyone .

I remember driving to Charleston with Bill to model in a hair styling competition. His model backed out on the day of the competition and Bill (reluctantly I'm sure) asked me to replace him. He was about to shave my neck with a straight razor and his hands were shaking so badly from nervousness that making it safely home was questionable.

LOL, this brings back many memories. I have known Bill since the mid 60's. I delivered the morning newspaper through downtown Bridgeport for over 5 years from early 1967 to mid 1972. Bill and his father had the barber shop, and were one of my customers. They always gave me candy when I collected. Other customers through the downtown that I delivered to back then that some old-time Bridgeporters may recognize were Mr Salmon's pottery, Alkire's, the C&H Market, Charlie Preston's fabric shop, the Virginian Restaurant, J. Eddies, John, who ran the gas station across from the Civic Center, the Bridgeport Bank, the Place of Fashion, there was a barber shop beside the Place of Fashion, Home Hardware, Furbee's Pharmacy, Irene's, Benny's shoe shop, DeMoss' gas station, Tucker Funeral Home, the Pure Food store, Father Carroll, Nicholson's barber shop. - (by the way, does anyone else think that that is Jimmy Joe LaRosa to Bills left?)

Bill "Hootie" Mick. What a character. He cut all the athletes hair in Bridgeport and did not mind critiqueing your athletic ability the day after the game. Haircuts were 25 cents back then when he cut our hair. He also would give you advice on the women. What a great man and memory.

I remember Bill Mick well!!! My father got his hair cut my Mr. Mick and was compelled to take my sisters and me to also get our famous "bowl cuts". We have many laughs about those styles... Thanks for the fond memory! Beth Walker Sickles
