Time Travel: Main Street Gas and Restaurant from 1964 and Building the Grafton Dam Back in 1935

By Dick Duez on January 28, 2018 from History Blog

This location may look familiar as today it is the home of the Main Street Dairy Queen. In this 1960s photos, the building was home to Jenny's Restaurant and the lot prior to it heading on U.S. Route 50 West was the Keystone Gasoline Station.
This photo shows that it was taken on March 26,1935. The photo is of work being done on the Grafton Dam on the Tygart River. Many utilize the facility today in neighboring Taylor County.

Editor's Note: This ongoing photo feature of pictures from Bridgeport and throughout the Mountain State is part of local historian Richard
"Dick" Duez's collection. Duez, the unofficial historian of Bridgeport, would appreciate any scanned photos emailed to him for use here or to include in his ongoing efforts to preserve local history. You can email photos, or let him know how to acquire copies of photos you may have in your possession, to Duez at dick.do@frontier.com.

I'm pretty sure that's Larry Crisslip standing by the sign at Jenny's Restaurant.

...look at the old signage and the "Bell Telephone" we have a pay phone...a WHAT!! The old Chevrolet sitting there. As I recall she move to the afore mentioned lot and built a new restaurant the Virginian. That would have been in the mid seventies. Jim Smallridge had a used car lot there as well and I'm not sure but Bob Andrew may have operated the gas station
