Last week, under a beautiful fall sky, the market held our biggest fundraiser of the year: A Wild and Wonderful Table. This year was a bit different than years past and, in my opinion, our best yet. Chefs Mike Costello and Amy Dawson of Lost Creek Farm prepared a dynamite five course dinner using all locally sourced ingredients.

Our first two courses were served as guest mingled, enjoying Short Story Brewing brews, handcrafted cocktails, and a selection of wine. These courses were Buttermilk Biscuits with Pulled Duck Confit and Salt Rising Toast with Roasted Beet Relish. Guests were also entertained all evening by Half Batch, a local duo singing and strumming original songs.

A new addition this year was a silent auction. And what an addition it was! There were ten different items to bid on, ranging from a gift basket filled with vendor products to a pair of tickets to Mountain Stage. Two of the most coveted items of the night were a restaurant basket filled with gift cards to several local restaurants and a pair of handcrafted chairs by our very own Daniel Raines.

The tables were adorned with floral arrangements by resident market florist, Love, Shyla. Shyla spent the better part of Friday preparing the arrangements onsite using flowers from her garden and locally foraged greenery. Her dahlias were exceptionally stunning! Another really cool piece she created was a beautiful hanging greenery that was adorned with twinkle lights and hung above the rustic bar scene.

Our main two dinner courses included Stuffed Peppers with Housemade Italian Sausage over Smoky Grits and Pan Fried Chicken over Three Sisters Succotash. The numerous farmers that provided ingredients included Falling 4 Ewe FarmSweet Wind FarmJennings Brae Bank Farm, Green Acres FarmMt Hollow FarmThe Vegetable Garden, and Sew Kneaded. Dessert included an Apple Cardamom Handpie with Roasted Chicory Root Ice Cream.

Chef Jay Mahoney brought along several culinary students to help prepare our feast from the Pierpont Culinary Academy
We'd like to thank our resident photographer, Daniel Raines, for our photos of the night. It was truly magical and we are already thinking of new ideas for next year!

And don't forget - only two weekends left in our regular market season! If the weatherman is right, this Sunday looks to be very summer like with temperatures in the 80s! And be sure to mark your calendars - our winter market schedule was released this week.  The Ugly Christmas Sweater is always a favorite and one of our busiest winter markets of the season. Be sure to remember us as you make your Christmas list and check it twice!
