Wow! Just wow. If you were at the market last Sunday for opening day of our *ninth* season, you know what I mean! The market location has shifted slightly, a few hundred feet, but the new digs make it feel like a whole new market. There was a record number of vendors for opening day - somewhere in the ball park of 45! Most of our farmers were sold out by noon, with only onions left when I was able to slip away from my tent to try to do a little shopping. Jason Poth Farms (https://www.facebook.com/jasonpothfarms/)is close enough that Jason actually ran home to the farm mid market to get more goodies! All of our food vendors, from My Little Cupcake (https://www.facebook.com/mylittlec/) to the new Rural Roots (https://www.facebook.com/ruralrootsllc/) sold out and the chef's demo was a huge hit!

Resident market photographer, Daniel Raines (https://www.facebook.com/RainesPhotographic/), captured some awesome shots of the market. You should definitely check them (https://rainesphotographic.pixieset.com/bfmopeningday/) out - maybe you'll see someone you know or yourself!  We saw several smiling faces, many of them new!

This is the start of my *fourth* season as a contributor to the blog and I couldn't be more excited. Each time I post, I'll be outlining the special events we have planned for the upcoming month. We've got some good ones! So, here goes!

On June 4th, the Humane Society of Harrison County (https://www.facebook.com/HSHCWV/) will be there with some adorable animals for adoption, as well as accepting donations to support the shelter. It's currently kitten and puppy season at the shelter, so donations of cat littler, dog and cat toys, as well as puppy and kitten food would be greatly appreciated. Help us help the animals!

Under the demo tent is Chef Dale Hawkins from Fish Hawk Acres (https://www.facebook.com/FishHawkAcresWV/) and music will be provided by The Masons (https://www.facebook.com/themasonsacoustic/)

June 11th will be our first ever Women's Day event at the market! I am very excited for this day and it is jam packed with a bunch of fun things. Health professionals from United Hospital Center will be on hand with information pertaining to women's health in areas of oncology and cardiology. Riversong Spa (https://www.facebook.com/riversongspawv/) will be joining us with some Pilates demonstrations as well as some other things for our special women! Visit Sensei John Billie to learn techniques for self defense!
This market will also kick off a series of events those with kids should get excited about - the Bridgeport Farmers Market Touch A Truck series! First up is the Harrison County EMS with an ambulance. I know my kids are excited and so am I!

Under the music tent is market favorite The Masons (https://www.facebook.com/themasonsacoustic/) and Chef MK Ohlinger from Hill and Hollow (https://www.facebook.com/hillandhollowwv/) will be preparing a culinary delight. Mark your calendar and plan to make a day of it on June 11th!
Fathers Day is sure to delight the dad in your life! Bring dad out for a special Sunday brunch and pick up plenty of things for an afternoon cook out. There will also be plenty of unique gift items for dad, from a one of a kind beer stein to a hand turned wooden bowl to a bar of soap. Be sure to check out the chef demo by market dad and cupcake extraordinaire Frank Crislip of My Little Cupcake (https://www.facebook.com/mylittlec/) and enjoy some music by Redd and Matthews as part of the Summer Jazz Stroll.
Be sure to check out the market's Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/bridgeportfarmersmarketwv/) page and this blog regularly to keep up to date on the latest market information and happenings. And until next week, stay fresh!
