Let's Get Fresh: The First Sunday of Market Season

By Bob Workman on May 21, 2017 from Let’s Get Fresh via Connect-Bridgeport.com

Annnd, we're back!

Welcome to Season #9, #9, #9 of the Bridgeport Farmers Market. There is lots of new stuff going on this season so I'm going to delve right in and clue you in to a few of them.

If you're a long time customer you will find this one out rather quickly when you pull into the parking lot. We're no longer there! You'll actually be parking in the lot where we used to be. We'll be a mere 100 feet away in the new parking lot behind the soon-to-open Greater Bridgeport Convention and Visitors Bureau building. While everything is not quite in place yet we'll be going for the one with our new setup on the site with all the usual folks. Chef's demo, music, POP club, dining tents, the whole she-bang. I'll introduce you to some of our new vendors in a minute.

First, please take a look around our redesigned website. We think it's a much more modern and crisper look and gives us more room to grow. For instance, we now have a link at the top of the main page to our vendor list.

The other exciting thing coming to the site this summer will be a monthly Test Kitchen blog by the Frugal Foodie Mama herself, Carrie Robinson. Each month Carrie will shop the Market for the freshest items available and prepare a meal for her family then share the results and recipes with us. And we'll also have your regulars back including Heidi Nawrocki and myself. Let us know what you think and, please, come back and visit often.

We also have a batch of new vendors this season. You'll hear more about them as the season progresses, and you may even hear from a few of them here in their own words, but for now here is a primer on each of them.
  • Radabaugh Farms from Upshur County - Produce including heirloom tomatoes and beans. Charlie will also have fresh maple syrup as well as a new item to the Market, Sorghum syrup.
  • WV Briarpatch from Bridgeport - Seasonal Produce
  • Falling 4 Ewe Farm from Flemington - As the name suggests they will offer fresh lamb as well as pork, goat, rabbit, and chicken.
  • Magpie's from Ritchie County- Our newest baker will be offering up, you guessed, fresh baked pies of all varieties.
  • Knot Just Art from Upshur County - Our new wood-turning bowl maker.
  • Rural Roots from Bridgeport - Our newest food vendor will be offering up fresh grilled burgers made with grass-fed
  • ground beef from vendor Poth Farms, buns from vendor Little Red Hen, and toppings and sauces from lots of other vendors.
  • Mountain Creative Ceramics from Fairmont - MCC will be joining us later in the season and will have a variety of pottery items for sale.
So, join us for our season debut along with Market favorites Kay & Posey under the Music Tent and Mia Margherita Executive Chef Pamela Delaude in the Chef's Demo tent!

Until next time, Stay Fresh!

(PS I'm going with the rock and roll references this time. If you catch all of them and the bands they refer to come by the Market info tent this Sunday and let me know. Might even be a prize involved.)
