As May approaches, so do the summer blockbusters, and 2015 is looking to be a doozy.  With new entries in several huge franchises, and some promising new ones, I thought I’d take the time to highlight some of the bigger movies of the upcoming season.

 

Furious 7 (April 3) The first blockbuster of the year, Furious 7 was a heck of a ride, a franchise high, and a good start for the season. You can read my full review HERE on Connect-Bridgeport and as of April 15, 2015 it’s still in theaters. Go out and see it today!

 

Avengers: Age of Ultron (May 1) The last addition to Marvels Juggernaut of a franchise, Age of Ultron looks to give fans more of what they love-- snarky superheroes whooping some robot butt. With Joss Whedon, director of the original Avengers, returning it looks to be a surefire success.

 

Mad Max: Fury Road (May 15) The first Mad Max film in over two decades, with franchise creator George Miller returning and Tom Hardy taking over from series alumni Mel Gibson,  Fury Road looks to spin another compelling tale of the titular road warrior and his quest across the desolate wasteland that is dystopian Earth.

 

Pitch Perfect 2 (May 15) The sequel to 2012’s hit about cappella group The Bella’s, Pitch Perfect 2 has the lovable group competing in a worldwide competition. With an ensemble cast anchored by Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, look forward to a fun encore.

 

Poltergeist (May 22) I’m iffy about Hollywood remaking such a classic horror film, and the generic-ish trailer does little to abate my fears. Still, it’s sure to make a lot of cash at the box office.

 

Tomorrowland (May 22) The latest film from Pixar star Brad Bird, little enough is known about Tomorrowland, but with quality actors like George Clooney and Hugh Dancy attached, and Disney producing, it looks to be a compelling watch.

 

San Andres (May 29) A disaster flick starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and San Andres shows a realistic look at the aftermath of the largest earthquake in recordered history. And by realistic, I mean hundreds of CGI explosions and fires. Expect a dumb, but fun, ride.

 

Insidious: Chapter 3 (June 5) The third film in the surprisingly not awful Pg-13 horror series, Chapter 3 features a little girl getting possessed, a demonic spirit world, and Tiny Tim’s falsetto vocals scaring the heck out of everyone. Maybe it’s more of the same, but at least it’s solid.

 

Jurassic World (June 12) The first addition in the famous Dino Franchise since 2001’s Jurassic Park 3, Jurassic World looks to bring the franchise back to mainstream relevance.  Starring Guardians of the Galaxy’s Chris Pratt, it looks to be a fun twist on an old formula.

 

Inside Out (June 19) I’m a sucker for Pixar films, but even the studio’s biggest fans will admit the last couple movies haven’t been their best. Inside Out, the first Pixar film since 2013’s Monster’s University, looks to bring back the heart that put the studio on the map to begin with. And best of all, it’s not a sequel!

 

Ted 2 (June 26) The sequel to every Frat Boys favorite comedy, Ted 2 returns with the entire original cast, minus Mila Kunis. Comedy sequels are rarely as funny as the original, but I’m rooting for this one.
