For those who were familiar with Scott Faris’s work when he lived in Bridgeport, it will come as no surprise that he continues to create magic by viewing the world from the perspective of the camera lens.  The 2004 BHS graduate was known for his unique and creative commercials that were shown on the Indian Insider, an in-school news program, and, even at a young age, Faris’s gift was obvious to his teachers, family and friends.

After graduating from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, he moved to South Dakota, where he taught 5th grade on the Rosebud Indian Reservation.  While there, he won awards as Lead Video Producer on Teach for America’s digital marketing team.  Her currently lives in Los Angeles, where he was the Head of Creative at Redbird, a content marketing agency.  He had created video for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Staples, and even Kid President.

His passion for positive social change in the world led him to his latest venture.  In May, he and co-owner Meg Griffiths launched Universe Creative, a company which specializes in digital strategy and storytelling.

“We know the power of storytelling to evoke empathy and understanding and create points of connections,” said Faris.  “We are inspired by a belief that progress happens when good stories meet good ideas and that’s what we want to encourage through our work.”

The company name is based on a quote by poet and activist Muriel Rukeyser, who wrote that “the universe is made of stories, not of atoms.”  Faris and Griffiths will focus their creative efforts on organizations that strive to effect positive social and environmental changes in the world and will be working with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the KIND Foundation, among other notable change-makers.

Through Universe Creative, the duo is committed to delivering high quality video that inspires change. They have been working together on award-winning video content since 2012 and have both been involved with Teach for America and Redbird. Griffiths’ teams have been recognized with both Pulitzer Prize and Webby nominations and she has over a decade of experience in digital content development and marketing. Their combined vision for the company enables them to collaborate on projects that showcase their individual talents while ultimately creating an accessible message from the clients.

“It is such a privilege to work with people who see good in the world and who want to promote opportunities for others to spread hope, encouragement, and connectivity,” said Faris.
