BHS Parade Kicks off Homecoming Week; Festivities Continue for Next Several Days

By Julie Perine on September 13, 2017 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

The Bridgeport High School Homecoming parade will take place this evening, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The parade route is Philadelphia Avenue to Johnson Avenue, ending behind Bridgeport High School. Anywhere along Philadelphia Avenue - Center Street to James Street - or along Johnson Avenue near Bridgeport Middle School and BHS are good place to watch the procession.

The parade will reflect this year's homecoming theme, "Back to the Future" which was utilized by each BHS class to create unique floats which will be judged; winners announced at Friday night's football game with Fairmont Senior. Another parade highlight is the homecoming court.

As chosen by each class, this year's attendants are Samantha Olivio and Ally Spellman, freshmen; Abbie Alfred and Lindsay Suter, sophomores; Madison Hess and Megan Murray, juniors; and Victoria Catania, Taylor Frame, Joplin Kehrer, Sophie Lopez, Jenna Love, Rachel Reppert, Jenna Soltesz and Catie Wilson. Attendants will be accompanied by their student escorts. Flower girl for this year's homecoming is Eliza Kinsey and crown bearer is Parker William Tuttle.

As always, the parade will feature dozens of units, including the BHS Marching and Alumni bands; BHS, Bridgeport Middle School and children's athletic teams and the BHS Key Club, parade sponsor. During the parade, the Key Club will hold a food drive to benefit the community through Shepherd’s Corner. During the past couple of years, the canned food drive has brought in several hundred cans of food which were distributed to locals through Shepherd’s Corner.
Community members are asked to bring canned food items to the parade and members of the club will collect them as they walk the route.

Parade units will be throwing candy, but community members are asked to closely watch children and keep them from going into the streets.

BHS students have been celebrating homecoming all week with Spirit Week as themes have been designated each day. Thursday is the annual homecoming assembly and on Friday, the Indians will take on the Fairmont Senior Polar Bears. During halftime, the 2017 BHS Homecoming queen will be announced. Homecoming festivities will wrap up Saturday evening with a dance to be held at BHS.
