Break in Area Cold Spell will be Temporary as City, Region Set to Get Hit with Additional Frigid Weather

For weather fans who have tired of the ongoing cold, there’s some good news in the immediate future and there’s some not so good news beyond that.

Individuals hoping for any type of a break from the weather will likely get a bit of a break today as temperatures in Bridgeport and parts of North Central West Virginia could dip into the low 30s, according to WDTV Meteorologist Jessica Pash.

“There’s going to be a warm advection for the area that will cause the temperatures to jump, but it’s just ahead of another cold front that will cause temperatures to drop through Saturday,” Pash said.

The current cold weather, and the future cold weather, is coming from a familiar location. Pash said it’s coming from Canada and will really have people bundled up again in the next few days.

Starting Thursday and going through Saturday, the highs are projected to only reach 15 degrees. The low temperature each day will be around zero and much lower when wind chill is factored in, she said.

“Those temperatures are really going to feel low in the higher elevations and our eastern counties, such as Pocahontas County, where the wind chills should reach negative 25,” said Pash. “It’s not going to be much more pleasant here as it could range between negative 5 and negative 15. Friday night, in particular, in Bridgeport and the immediate area could see wind chill related temperatures at 20 below.”

To compound matters, Pash added there will be light flurries this evening through Thursday. The flurries will be off and on and could result in a dusting or a total of up to a half an inch of accumulation.

“I guess the good news, comparatively speaking, is from Sunday through Tuesday we should see some warmer temperatures,” said Pash.

Sunday is calling for a high of 32 degrees, while Monday is showing a high of 39 and Tuesday at 35. The lowest temperature forecast for those three days is currently set at 22 degrees. However, there could be some rain-snow mix that could cause some problems.

“Sunday night into Monday could see an event starting as a rain snow mix that turns into rain during the day Monday. That could continue at times into Tuesday. It’s a little far out to know just exactly how that will turn out,” Pash added.

As for the storm system battering the eastern coast, Pash said it should have no impact in our area. She said it should have little, if any, impact in any part of the state.

“The mountains may see a minor impact from what’s coming up the coast, but that’s about it,” said Pash.
