After a successful winter market debut, Bridgeport Farmers Market looks forward to its second event of the season – tagged the Ugly Christmas Sweater market.

On Dec. 10, residents are asked to slip into their coziest – and yes, even ugliest – holiday sweaters and come to Bridgeport Conference Center for warm, indoor shopping and some community fun.

"We challenge you to wear your ugliest holiday attire while shopping local for your holiday feast and gifts," said Debbie Workman of Bridgeport Farmers Market board of directors. "You'll find seasonal produce, farm-raised meats, farm-fresh eggs, baked goods, artisan products and more."

Open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the market will feature about 40 vendors, brunch - complete with Bloody Mary bar - prepared by the Bridgeport Conference Center culinary staff, and Christmas music by local musician, Hillary Kay.

"Riversong Spa will also offer a free Rise & Shine Yoga class from noon to 1 p.m.," Workman said. "All levels are welcome."

Pottery, wood-crafted items, bath and beauty products and jewelry are just a few of the gift items available for purchase. And for those who can’t decide just what item to buy, gift certificates are another option, Workman said.

As it is the holiday season, the market is asking shoppers to give back with one small gesture that adds up annually to a major collection of food.

“We are asking everyone to bring one non-perishable food item that will be donated to our local food pantry, The Shepherd's Corner,” Workman said. “Join us and celebrate a local holiday tradition with your family and friends.”

The Ugly Sweater Market has become a fun tradition. This is the fourth year, Workman said. The winter market will continue the second Sundays – 11 a.m. through 2 p.m. – in January, February, March and April.
