Bridgeport Police Seeking Public Help to Identify Man for Recent Shoplifting Incident at Meadowbrook Mall

By Jeff Toquinto on August 12, 2019 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

It’s been a week since the Bridgeport Police Department released information on an individual being sought for shoplifting at the Meadowbrook Mall. While there’s been nothing to develop, the department is hoping the public can still assist.

According to Officer D. Stallman, the incident took place August 5 at Target. The video footage of the suspect shows the alleged crime was at 4:58 p.m. that day.

“The suspect in question took approximately $200 worth of electronic items,” said Stallman. “I believe he came in prior to removing them from the store and staged some of the merchandise he was going to steal. It was pretty much a grab and run after that.”

Stallman said Target’s loss prevention team trip to stop the individual in question. However, he was able to get away from the scene with the merchandize.

Since that time, the item has been posted on social media. Stallman said there’s been little input from the somewhat grainy images taken from video footage at the Bridgeport store.

“We received one anonymous tip, which were thankful for,” said Stallman. “I don’t believe the tip received will be correct, at least at this time, for the individual in question.”

The charge for the crime if the perpetrator is identified and arrested will be shoplifting, which is a misdemeanor. However, if it is third offense shoplifting it then becomes a felony.

“We’re hopeful the public can assist again. Without the public we couldn’t do a lot of things,” said Stallman. “They are our greatest link as far as reaching out and finding out who certain individuals are locally and sometimes in locations much further away.”

Individuals can call Stallman at 304-848-6148 and leave a message if he’s not in. He can also be reached via email at dstallman@bridgeportwv.com.
