First-Ever Earth Day Festival in City Slated for Saturday at Bridgeport Recreation Complex

By Trina Runner on April 20, 2017 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

For nearly 50 years, the Earth has been celebrated on April 22 after a movement was started to set aside time to focus on environmental issues on an annual basis.  This year, the first-ever Earth Day Festival will take place at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex on Saturday, April 22, beginning at 11 a.m.

The Create Bridgeport+Clarksburg initiative is launching the event to increase conservation efforts at a local level, including the promotion of recycling, keeping our community clean, and locating resources that support the environment.  The family-friendly day will begin with a free yoga class and then have an official welcome from Clarksburg and Bridgeport Mayors.

Vendors will include the Solid Waste Authority, DEP, POP, BHS Key Club, Ginger Blue Naturals, Waste Management, Clarksburg Historic Society, Rails to Trails, and My Little Cupcake.

Waste Management will also host a “Touch a Truck” event during the Earth Day Festival and bounce houses will be on site as well as entertainment.

Around 1 p.m., community members will breakout into teams to clean up around Bridgeport’s Hinkle and Deegan Lakes and Clarksburg’s Veteran's Administration Park.  West Virginia Radio will broadcast live throughout the event.  In the event of rain, the event will be canceled.
