GFWC Woman's Club Presents Writing Contest Awards, Inducts New Members, Aids in Haiti Mission Work

GFWC Woman’s Club of Bridgeport met Thursday, April 12 at the Benedum Civic Center. The program included the presentation of awards for the annual student writing contest, the induction of new members and a presentation by Clarksburg Baptist Church Director of Children’s Ministries Janit Satterfield about her mission work in Haiti through the Friends of Forte Liberte.
 
Writing award winners present and awarded certificates by Writing Chair/Secretary Karen Lang were Brittany Kennedy, Trinity Mills, Brynna Mayle, Stella Rubi, Ronan Gould, Cassandra Marsh and Jordan Groves. Both Brynna Mayle and Jordan Groves also won their categories on the state level. Also pictured are GFWC Co-Presidents Brenda Swiger and Barbara Wilburn. 
 
Satterfield shared a slideshow featuring pictures from her past trips to Haiti, where the Friends of Forte Liberte built an orphanage. GFWC members made and donated 30 “pillowcase” dresses, which will be sent to Haiti, along with flip-flops, jewelry, underwear, coloring books and other items donated by the group.
 
Lenore Hinkle provided devotions. Refreshments were served after the business portion of the meeting.
