GFWC Woman's Club of Bridgeport Installs New Officers, Distributes State Awards

The GFWC Woman’s Club of Bridgeport met Thursday, May 10 at Best Western Plus in Bridgeport. Members and guests enjoyed dinner and jazz music by Brass, Rhythm & Sax Orchestra, followed by installation of officers and presentation of awards received at the annual GFWC state convention at The Greenbrier.
 
Serving as officers for the coming year are (pictured right to left above) Barbara Wilburn and Brenda Swiger, co-presidents; Terri Bracken, first vice president; Judy Lawson, secretary; Mary Matheny, second vice president (not pictured) and  Linda LeMasters, treasurer. Installing officers was GFWC of West Virginia North Central District President Donna Mick (pictured right).
 
Awards announced at state convention were presented to chairs of respective committees:
 
1st Place: Communication/Newsletter to Shirley Hadorn;
3rd Place: Pearl S. Buck Project to Eva Shearer;
3rd Place: Domestic Violence Outreach to Lisa Waugh;
3rd Place: President’s Special Project to Linda LeMasters;
3rd Place: Conservation to Judy Lawson;
3rd Place: Arts and Crafts to Mary Matheny;
3rd Place: Public Issues to Ruth Allen;
3rd Place Membership to Carol Rogers and Patty Coburn;
3rd Place: Home Life Partnership to Linda Rohrig-Helmick
1st Place: Home Life to Linda Rohrig-Helmick
1st Place: International Outreach for Operation Smile (Best Overall) to Terri Bracken;
1st Place: Leadership to Tressa Wolfe;
1st Place: Fundraising (Best Overall) to Barbara Wilburn and Brenda Swiger.
 
The club is sponsoring its annual golf tournament June 2 at Bel Meadow Golf Club. Tee-off time is 10 a.m. All proceeds will benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Businesses are encouraged to support the tournament by sponsoring a hole at $50 each. A hole-in-one on a designated hole wins a car from Dan Cava Toyota.
 
Ruth Allen (pictured left) had devotions and Rev. Jim Lang blessed the meal. Karol Wilson chose the menu.
 
The club will not meet for June, July or August. Monthly meetings will begin in September. Most meetings are held at the Benedum Civic Center.
