Misty Harlow, nurse manager of obstetrics at United Hospital Center, said a Tuesday morning birth was the first at the medical facility for 2018.

Kamylah Rose Campbell, six pounds and 15 ounces and measuring 18 and one-half inches long, made her arrival at 9:57 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2.

She is the third child of Salem’s Jessica Cooper, who was admitted to UHC this morning in the nick of time.

“I came in this morning around 7:30 or 8 a.m.,” she said. “My boyfriend’s sister took me up to the fourth floor in a wheelchair. They got me to a room, checked me and I was fully dilated. They said, ‘We’re having a baby.’”

The baby’s father is Paul Campbell Jr., also of Salem. Kamylah has a two-year-old brother and nine-year-old sister.

Baby and mother are doing well and expecting family to visit the hospital to celebrate the new birth.
