Local Hero Returns to City Surprise Welcome Home Celebration in His Dovetail Estates Neighborhood

The internet is full of videos that show the emotional reunion of families when a soldier returns from deployment.  Last Sunday, the neighborhood of Dovetail Estates got to witness this feeling first hand.

Serving as a Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force overseas, Joseph Salisbury was finally able to return home to see his family.  His wife, Chelsea, and sons Lawson and Coleson had been anticipating his return, but did not know the exact date until last Saturday.

The Dovetail Estates neighbors immediately launched into action to plan a one-of-a-kind welcome to the soldier who was deployed shortly after his youngest son was born.  Signs, balloons and flags were displayed by families throughout the neighborhood and Card My Yard decorated the lawn in anticipation of the big event.

“When the family finally arrived in the neighborhood, we all cheered as they made their way to their house,” said neighbor Jennifer Blair.  “We are all so thankful for his service and wanted to honor him as well as his wife, who has taken care of all the difficult tasks stateside while he was away.”

None of the Salisbury family knew what the neighborhood had planned, so it was a very emotional homecoming where a small town came together to show their appreciation for the service of one of their own. The return of a hero is always cause for celebration in Bridgeport and the video attached reminds us all to be grateful for where we live.
