Bridgeport Police units were dispatched to two separate vehicle accidents at Lodgeville Road/U.S. Route 50 this afternoon, one which resulted in an arrest for driving under the influence.

The first accident happened at 12:55 p.m.

"It was a simple rear-end type collision at the intersection, turning right onto U.S. Route 50 West," said Officer J. Matt Holly. "The first vehicle started to pull out and she stopped for whatever reason and the second vehicle couldn't get stopped and rear-ended her."

The car that was hit was a Chevrolet Impala and the vehicle that struck it was a Subaru Outback, Holly said.

The driver of the Impala was transported by Bridgeport Fire/EMS to United Hospital Center with complaints of neck pain. That vehicle was towed from the scene.

"It was only towed because she was transported," Holly said. "There was just minimal damage to both vehicles and both were driveable."

The second accident at the same location happened just before 3 p.m. Police and Fire/EMS units were dispatched at 2:52 p.m. Also a rear-end collision, the wreck happened on Lodgeville Road just before the Route 50 intersection.

"Both vehicles were heading south on Lodgeville Road coming up toward the stoplight," said Officer G.T. Collins. "A passenger car - a Ford Taurus - rear-ended a Chevrolet pickup truck."

There were no injuries in that collision, but the driver of the Taurus was taken into custody for driving under the influence, Collins said.

Editor's Note: Pictured is the Chevy Impala that was struck in the first accident. The driver of that vehicle was transported to UHC.
