UPDATE: The name of the individual charged in this case was Austin Thomas of Lost Creek. The shots were fired with a 40-caliber semi-automatic pistol.

At about 12:45 a.m. Sunday, more than a dozen law enforcement officers were dispatched to a reported shooting at Main Street Station in Bridgeport.

“It was a large-scale altercation and shots were fired,” said Bridgeport Police Chief John Walker. “It started inside (Main Street Station) and ended up out in the parking lot. About 15 officers responded from Clarksburg Police Department, the (Harrison County) Sheriff’s Department and our agency (Bridgeport Police).

Multiple rounds – as many as five or more – had been fired, some striking a vehicle and some going through the building, Walker said.

“But no one was struck,” he said.

After firing the shots, the suspect left the premises. Once law enforcement obtained a description of the male suspect, a search took place.

“They checked different locations throughout the county before finding him,” Walker said.

Walker is not aware at this time where the suspect was apprehended, but the suspect - Austin Thomas of Lost Creek - was arrested and charged with wanton endangerment with a firearm, a felony, and thereafter transported to North Central Regional Jail at about 6 a.m. Sunday.

It is not known at this time whether or not Thomas has posted bond.

When law enforcement arrived at Main Street Station, there were a number of individuals involved in the altercation, but officers had the crowd under control and conditions were safe when they left the premises, Walker said.  He said the reason for the altercation is unknown.

Some witnesses have reported that it started over a game of pool.

Bridgeport Police Lieutenant John Post was supervising the overnight shift of Bridgeport Police Department. Lt. Gary Weaver was also on scene.

Main Street Station is located on Railroad Street, just off North Virginia Avenue, across the street from Bridgeport Pool/basketball courts.
