New Winner Emerges in Carder Motors Playoff Payoff Week 7 as Elected Official Earns Runner-Up Spot

By Jeff Toquinto on October 10, 2017 via Connect-Bridgeport.com

For the first time in four weeks, Bridgeport’s Kevin Carbacio didn’t find himself in the top spot – even though he’s not too far from there. However, in week seven of the Carder Motors Playoff Payoff Football Pick’em competition, Patrick Coberly not only was the winner, but did so without the need of a tiebreaker.

Thanks to a 26-4 mark for the week, Coberly is this week’s winner. He now has the choice of a gift certificate from Buffalo Wild Wings or a small cheesecake from Almost Heaven Desserts. Coberly needs to contact Hannah Edwards with his contact information, including address, by email at hannah@connect-bridgeport.com.

While Coberly stood atop the standings, there was a six-way tie for second. Jeff Muller, Mike Alastanos, Bob Greer, Eric Allen, Bill Montgomery and Craig Trippett all finished the week 25-5.

From that group, Greer, a member of Bridgeport City Council, was the blind draw winner. He will receive the prize not chosen by Coberly and will also need to contact Hannah Edwards at the email listed above.

Two more ties rounded out this week’s top 25. At the No. 8 spot, Michael Judy, Jason Young, Kevin Carbacio, Lenora Montgomery, Chris Nutter, Jason Hartman, John Hart, Joe Teter, Derrick Bramer, Aaron Williams, and Adam Holbert all finished at 24-6.

Rounding out the top 25 was a 24-way tie for the No. 19 spot. Michael Hustead, Ron Sandreth, Chris Oliverio, Pat Boyles, Jeff Wright, Frank Cherubino, Aaron Glines, Joe Meluzio, Brent Kimble, Robert Marra, Ryan Chandler, Dwight Bullough, Jay Garrett, Nancy Romano, Aaron Mann, Jimmy Stutler, Micheal Ferrari, Chris Skidmore, Louis Aragona, Michael Mann, Rob Stallman, Chris Dolan, Pete Curry and James Burton II all finished the week 23-7.

Kevin Carbacio maintains the overall lead after seven weeks and is comfortably in first place. He has a record of 174-29 (85.71 percent). Former Bridgeport educator Bill Montgomery comes in at the second spot with a mark of 161-42 (79.31 percent), while Jason Hartman is back in the thick of things with a 159-44 (78.33 percent).

Jason McCall and Mark Trippett are tied at No. 4 at 158-45 (77.83 percent), while there is a three-way tie at No. 6. The group of Adam Holbert, Jeff Muller and Clayce Spurlock are deadlocked there thanks to having a mark of 157-46 (77.34 percent). Jimmy Stutler is alone at No. 9 at 156-47 (76.85 percent), while the trio of Nancy Romano, Frank Blake and Craig Trippett round out the top 10 at 155-48 (76.35 percent).

All alone at No. 13 is Mike Alastanos and his 154-49 (75.86 percent) record, while he is followed by a group of seven tied at No. 13. Gilbert Kelley, Aaron Mann, Patsy Sabatelli, John Pulice, Rob Stallman, Steven Hastings and Ryan Chandler all stand at 153-50 (75.37 percent).

Rounding out the overall top 25 standings after seven weeks are nine individuals tied at the No. 21 spot. Delbert Leatherman, Chris Nutter, Michael Ferrari, Eric Allen, Lenora Montgomery, Chris Oliverio, Chris Byrd, James Burton II and Chris Johnson all have the same 152-21 (74.88 percent) record at the seven-week mark.

Those individuals are currently the frontrunners for the grand prizes. The prize packages are still being put together for the year. However, one of the top prizes include a $500 gift certificate from the Meadowbrook Mall. The top three pickers will be awarded prizes at the end of the contest, which goes well into December. The overall winner has their choice of the three prizes, while the second place winner will have their choice then of the final two remaining prizes.

For those thinking the contest is over because they’ve had a couple of bad weeks, don’t fret. What makes the Carder Motors Playoff Payoff competition unique is that once the contest is over you don’t necessarily know who the winner is even though you will see your weekly overall ranking and Connect-Bridgeport will post the weekly and overall top 25 throughout the contest. At the end of the year, everyone that competes has their two worst weeks dropped and then the winner is announced based on the highest winning percentage.

While it would be impossible to win the overall prizes if you’ve not entered, you can still compete and win the weekly prizes. And it’s easy to do.

If you are a registered member of Connect-Bridgeport's Web site, all you have to do is make sure you're signed in and the click the Playoff Payoff icon on the home page that can be found by scrolling down to the left. If you're not registered, go to the top of the home page and register. It takes less than a minute.

Another unique aspect of the competition is that you can make changes to your picks leading up to games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Individuals can make their picks for Friday’s games and can change them until 6 p.m. Friday. Games that are listed on Saturday and Sunday can be entered and changed as many times as necessary until 11 a.m. each day of the picks.

Unfortunately, there are occasional schedule changes - usually on the prep football side - that staff does not catch; usually games moved to Thursday or a time change bumped up. There are also occasional mistakes with the proper teams playing each other. As has been the case in the past, each person will either be given a win for those games when there are schedule changes we miss or a mistake on our end or a or they will simply not be counted for the weekly and final standings.

You must use your actual name to compete. Nicknames or aliases will not be recognized for weekly or overall prizes.
