For those wanting more flights to Orlando and Myrtle Beach during the upcoming summer months, there’s some really good news from the North Central West Virginia Airport. During Wednesday’s meeting, Authority President Ron Watson mentioned to Director Rick Rock about the news with three flights to each location.

 

Following the meeting, Rock confirmed that there will be three flights on a regular basis to both Myrtle Beach and Orlando-Sanford in the summer months. Although the flight to Orlando occasionally has seen three flights per week through destination carrier Allegiant, it’s been sporadic.

 

This time, it’s consistent.

 

“This will be taking place for more than two months straight,” said Rock.

 

Starting May 31, flights will begin on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays to Myrtle Beach. Orlando will see flights on Tuesday, Thursday and Sundays.

 

“Those flights will go through August 15,” said Rock. “We’re really excited about this because Allegiant is again putting faith in this community because the community continues to support these flights. This is a sign of real growth and, hopefully, more good things to come.”

 

The growth has led to the construction of a passenger holding area annex due to large crowds. The area in question is expected to be finished before the May 31 time when additional flights will begin.

 

Rock said the flights came about because of regular meetings with officials from Allegiant. He said this addition stems from a recent annual meeting with the airline.

 

“One of the things you go over during these annual meetings are the results of current operations and bookings and we have a strong case to add additional flights based on the fact we’re nearly at capacity on each flight,” said Rock. “We have made this request before to consider adding a third flight during the peak summer period and this time they agreed.

 

“I’m proud to see this happen and the community should be as well,” he continued. “They’re the reason this is happening, and I truly believe if they continue using this service it’s going to continue to grow.”
